Beauty Care Seen as First Step to Wellness - Supermarket News

CHICAGO — Beauty care is an integral part of today's health and wellness platform, said Thom Blischok, global president of innovation & strategy, SymphonyIRI Group here during a webinar on Wednesday on "Redefining Health and Beauty Care for Untapped Profit Potential."

"The first stage of health and wellness is beauty," he said. "People want to look good to feel good. This is a major shift in thinking. Health and wellness is holistic and not about medicines only or beauty used in salons or the home. It is about a concept."

The research presented showed that 92% of beauty care shoppers are brand loyal. However, they do seek value and 25% of them are shifting to lower cost channels. Blischok said retailers should position their departments as health, beauty, wellness rather than health and beauty care to take advantage of the shopper's focus on wellness going forward.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores hosted the webinar on the eve of its Marketplace Conference, June 5-8 in San Diego.

Beauty and Aromatherapy - Examiner

Aromatherapy is a wonderful healing art. If you want to know more about aromatherapy and aren't familiar with it, you'll need to do some extensive research to keep yourself safe. Aromatherapy information can be found in books, on the internet or at a health store.

Aromatherapy is very popular for health, beauty and a feeling of well-being. You can find it in several different products that are out on the market. Some of the products you may see aromatherapy oils are in shampoos and conditioners, lotion, candles, and it is even available in baby products such as baby wipes, lotions, soaps, diaper rash cream, and oils.

Aromatherapy information dates back to the prehistoric times when natural healing was all that was available at the time. Doctors would work hard to figure out which oil or herb was best for different conditions. People began to rely on this type of natural healing.

Some believe that there is a plant for everything that hurts us. Some people have even used aromatherapy to help with side effects, pain and aches associated with cancer or another terminal illness.

The ancient Egyptians used plant oils for such things as cosmetics, relaxation and embalming. It has also been found that the ancient Egyptians would place a slow melting cone of fragrance on their heads. We're guessing that they wore this cone for their health, the pleasant fragrance, and maybe even spiritual reasons.

In ancient Greece they used herbs and aromatherapy oils for healing and also for cosmetics. The first known doctor of Greece named Asclepius experimented with herbs and plants. He believed that relaxation techniques with aromatherapy such as aromatic baths and oil messages could reduce the chance of someone needing surgery. Although he was faced with skepticism he still practiced what he believed.

The Romans believed in aromatherapy when they started the same distillation and extraction as the Egyptians and the Greeks. The Romans had a physician named Claudius Galen who used plant extractions as remedies to heal the injuries of the gladiators.

A Persian physician named Ibn Sina created a pipe that would steam the plants helping to bring the essential oils to surface. This became the beginning of the essential oils we prepare today, compared to the aromatic waters that were used before.

A doctor of the French Army, Jean Valnet, used essential oils to treat soldier's wounds in World War II. Marguerite Maury, an Austrian Biochemist, used essential oils for healing massage and cosmetics.

As you see throughout the ages, as the world has changed, one thing has stayed the same. Aromatherapy has been around and will always be around as long as there are plants. Aromatherapy information has been passed down from each generation.

It's so useful and has been tested in so many ways that you can't help but believe in its effect. There are several factors to take into consideration when you consider using aromatherapy and it may not be right for everyone. You won't know until you try.

The magnificent doctors of their time did research to obtain their aromatherapy information. With improved ways of obtaining essential oils it still does the same thing it did several thousands of years ago.

In closing, if you are thinking of using some of the wonderful products available on the market today for make-up, bath and body as well as scented candles just to name a few, consider what each essential oil will do for you and select accordingly. Above all, enjoy the soothing of your senses as you experience what women from the days of Cleopatra have known for ages.

Health & Beauty BreakDowns: Make-up Myths Part 2 - WNDU

Posted: 26 May 2010 01:54 AM PDT

Mineral makeup is made of all natural ingredients
Depends:
This is partially true, but can be misleading. Mineral makeup is makeup stripped down to a few bare essentials, without the fragrances, dyes, and many other synthetic ingredients cosmetic companies have put in makeup for years.

However, not every brand of mineral makeup is as pure or natural as it is advertised. Some companies add synthetic ingredients, yet still label the product as mineral makeup. The current trend in cosmetics, skincare, and nearly every product imaginable, is for all things to be natural and environmentally friendly. The cosmetic marketing industry has pounced on this, advertising the benefits of an all-natural product and the woes of a synthetic chemical.

The truth is that some cosmetic companies produce mineral makeup with only natural, gentle ingredients. Whether the mineral makeup is all natural or not, if you are satisfied with the results, everyone is happy.

The Most Common Cliches About Beauty - Associated Content

Posted: 27 May 2010 03:36 PM PDT

Beauty is not just about makeup, mirrors, and how many dessert packs you have to surrender to fit into those skinny jeans you love. Beauty is not just some trivial and uninspired dream that exist solely to sell products, produce drool, and make tongues wag. Beauty is distinctly perceived, enthusiastic and utterly rooted in hard science rather than in random and philosophical opinions. From the time, we started prancing around the world with our body-hair parkas and leafy lingerie evolution has pushed us to be more attractive. That is why beauty serves as our base for our happiness, our feelings, and our existence.

In fact, beauty does not reflect our vanity as much as it does our humanity. Beauty my dear appearance obsessed friends are our health. Now we already know that beauty is always on our mind, because it is on everybody's mind. We cant help but think about beauty. Every time we get in the shower or view our reflection we are thinking about our looks.

It drives our decisions about the way we eat and exercise. It even determines whether we wear that little black dress or those white pants. Traditional beauty you know the outer kind certainly is not just about looking good. Your outer beauty serves as a proxy of how healthy we are; it is the message we send to others about our health. Way before doctors could interpret our genome, use fertility tests to see when we're ovulating and order those expensive MRIs to see what's going on with our livers people use to rely on beauty as a serious assessment of potential partners health.

Beauty was the best way to figure it out mind you in a tenth of a second. If you take the concept of beauty deeper, you will notice that inner beauty the idea of being happy and feeling generous also has tremendous health implications in every aspect of your life. For so long we've had it all wrong. All of us have thought of beauty as superficial and nonessential. Now lets go over our most popular beauty clichés.
