Defendant's health delays trial in Mass. Uzi death - Washington Post Posted: 14 Dec 2010 09:47 AM PST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- A judge has refused to grant a three-week delay in the trial of a former Massachusetts police chief charged in the death of an 8-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself with an Uzi submachine gun. The judge rejected a request to postpone Edward Fleury's trial until Jan. 3 because of Fleury's health problems. Fleury was hospitalized last week as jury selection began. His lawyer told Judge Cornelius Moriarty on Tuesday that doctors did not find a heart problem, as originally suspected, but Fleury must undergo a gastrointestinal evaluation at another hospital. Moriarty told Fleury's lawyer to bring Fleury's doctor to court after testing is completed. Fleury has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the 2008 death of Christopher Bizilj (bah-SEEL') of Ashford, Conn. The boy shot himself in the head at a gun fair co-sponsored by Fleury's company. The 32-year-old hottie took it off for designer Marc Jacobs for the latest edition of his "Protect the skin you're in" T-shirts, part of the celebrity designer's skin cancer awareness campaign. On the shirt, Miller is pictured with the campaign's slogan and her hair strategically covering her X-rated parts. She's also sporting a pair of stylish Chuck Taylors. The T-shirts will be sold at Marc Jacobs' boutiques with proceeds benefiting the NYU Cancer Institute, according to the campaign's Facebook page. Miller isn't the only celeb to have taken it off for the designer. Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham and Helena Christensen have also participated in the campaign in past years. "Since we moved to California I have realized how important it is to practice safe sun for myself and to keep my three boys' skin well protected as well. Skin cancer is a huge problem and I really wanted to help raise awareness by taking part in Marc's initiative," Beckham said after she took it off in 2008. Jacobs launched the campaign in 2006 with business partner Robert Duffy to raise awareness about the disease. His first effort featured Winona Ryder, Rufus Wainwright, Eva Mendes, Julianne Moore and Selma Blair.
