Analysts pan Community Health price for Tenet deal - Washington Post Posted: 10 Dec 2010 02:53 PM PST -- Analysts say a $3 billion bid by Community Health Systems for fellow hospital operator Tenet Healthcare doesn't reflect Tenet's value but may spark a bidding war that draws private equity interest. Community Health is taking an offer of $6 per share to the Dallas-based company's shareholders after Tenet's board rejected a possible deal. The offer involves $5 in cash and $1 in stock per share and marks a 40 percent premium to Tenet's prior closing price. But Tenet executives and some analysts say that price is too low. They note that Tenet has invested heavily in information technology, which should help the business run better, and it has a broad real estate portfolio. Leaders of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health say the deal is fully priced at $6 per share and the are committed to getting the deal done. Beauty Queen Sentenced in Kidnapping of Ex-Boyfriend - AOL News Posted: 10 Dec 2010 11:03 AM PST (Dec. 10) -- A former Arizona beauty pageant winner whose unflattering mug shot made national headlines has been sentenced to prison for orchestrating the kidnapping and torture of her ex-boyfriend. Pima County Superior Court Judge Michael Miller sentenced Kumari Fulbright on Thursday to two years in prison and six years of probation. Fulbright received credit for about one year of time that she's already served. Fulbright, 28, and three men were arrested three years ago after Joshua Conway, 27, told police he had been robbed, tied up and tortured. Tucson Police Department / AP Kumari Fulbright, shown in a mug shot that made national headlines, has been sentenced to two years in prison and six years' probation for orchestrating the kidnapping and torture of her ex-boyfriend. The kidnapping stemmed from an incident in the fall of 2007, when Fulbright asked boyfriend Conway to sell some jewelry that a former boyfriend, Robert Ergonis, 48, had given to her. When Ergonis later asked about the jewelry, Fulbright lied to him and said that Conway had stolen the items, police said. In December 2007, Ergonis, along with Fulbright and two other men, identified in court documents as David Radde and Larry Hammond, decided to confront Conway about the jewelry. Fulbright lured Conway to her apartment, where he was ambushed by the three men, police said. Conway eventually managed to wrestle a gun away from Fulbright. He then ran to a neighboring house for assistance. When questioned by police, Conway said he had been held at gunpoint for eight to 10 hours. He said he was beaten and cut with a knife, police said. Fulbright contended that Ergonis only wanted to talk to Conway to find out what had happened to the jewelry. A Pima County grand jury later indicted Fulbright on charges of kidnapping, aggravated robbery, armed robbery and two counts of aggravated assault. Before her arrest, Fulbright, who studied law at the University of Arizona for two years, was best known for competing in the Miss Arizona contest and being named Miss Pima County in 2005 and Miss Desert Sun in 2006. She also worked as a law clerk for a U.S. District Court judge. Following her arrest, Fulbright garnered widespread media attention for her now infamous mug shot. In January 2008, Sillyfangirl.com deemed it the "Fugliest Mugshot of All Time." Sponsored Links Fulbright pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to commit kidnapping and aggravated assault. As part of a plea deal, Fulbright, Radde and Hammond all agreed to testify against Ergonis at his trial. Ergonis was ultimately convicted in November of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, armed robbery and aggravated robbery. He is scheduled to be sentenced next week.Prosecutors alleged that Fulbright had not shown remorse and had violated the terms of her plea agreement by attempting to coach Radde's testimony and did "anything and everything" to protect Ergonis. Prosecutors, however, did not push to have the deal thrown out, noting that Conway wanted to put the case behind him. Fulbright's defense attorney denied the accusations, saying his client had fully cooperated with the state. In addition to the prison term, Fulbright has been ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution.
