This morning on Good Morning America, Executive Editor for Allure Kristin Perrotta spoke with GMA and shared 31 products that are under $10.00. Trinity goes pink for breast-cancer awarenessIn honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Trinity has several activities planned for October, including Think Pink Day every Wednesday. On Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27, employees are encouraged to wear pink, can purchase special pink foods in the cafeteria, and can shop Trinity Gifts & Floral for 15 percent off all regular-priced merchandise. All three shops carry a selection of cancer-awareness merchandise, and have discounted mammogram coupons available all month.

Special pink prayer cards will be available in the chapels at all three campuses in October. Also, the cafeterias will display a "wall of honor" with pink cardstock ribbons completed and collected by the gift shops.

Emmy Award-winning celebrity makeup artist Jan Ping will headline "Beauty & the B(r)east," Trinity Cancer Center's inaugural "wecancervive" event, from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the QC Waterfront Convention Center.

Ms. Ping's own battle with the disease made her realize the impact cancer treatment has on a woman's self-image. She now travels the country, sharing her experiences that led her to recognize what beauty truly means. Register online at www.trinityqc.com/cancer.

Genesis offers sports/wellness screenings

Genesis physical therapists will off free sports and wellness screenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the lower level atGenesis Physical Therapy at Genesis Medical Park, Crow Valley, 2300 53rd Ave., Bettendorf.

There will be screenings for body fat, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, balance, appropriateness of dynamic stretching, and hand/grip strength. Participants also can receive a brief throwing or golf-swing analysis.

Staffers will provide clinic tours, discuss the benefits of physical therapy and answer questions about individual screening results as part of a celebration of National Physical Therapy Month. Refreshments will be provided.

Medical society seeking 'Unsung Heroes'

The Rock Island County Medical Society is soliciting nominations for the 2010 "Unsung Heroes" awards.

The awards go to people in Rock Island County who have gone above the call of duty in a single incident or by longtime excellence of service. One person will be selected from each of these categories: police, fire, emergency medical services, and community at large.

Nominations will be reviewed and winners selected by the RICMS executive committee. The awards will be presented to honorees at the Dec. 14 general membership meeting.

Send nominations to RICMS, 201 W. 2nd St., Suite 604, Davenport, IA 52801, by Oct. 22. Nominations should include, in one page or less, the nominating organization or person's name, address and phone number, the nominee's name, and reason they should be honored.

Speech therapist joins Hillcrest staff

Bridget Real is now providing speech-therapy services to residents at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo. She also works in the therapy department at Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo.

Ms. Real has designed memory aides for residents with memory and confusion difficulties.

Three-hour mental-health workshop set

Mental-health professionals are invited to a three-hour workshop, "Evidence-Based Practices and Recovering," on Oct. 28, led by Dr. Michael Flaum, professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.

The workshop will be 1-4 p.m. at the Best Western Steeplegate Inn in Davenport. The $25 workshop fee includes materials and refreshments.

Workshop attendees and the general public are invited to the annual dinner and program at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Flaum will deliver the keynote address, "Olmstead on the Homestead: Progress on Matching Needs and Services for Iowans with Mental Illness." There is no charge to attend the evening activities.
