There are definitely some perks to having a mother who is part of Hollywood's in-crowd as Marcia Cross's twin daughters Eden and Savannah are finding out.

Desperate Housewives star Cross, 48, accompanied her daughters to the premiere of Disney's new Sing-Along Beauty And The Beast DVD.

Tea time: The girls enjoyed a sumptuous tea at the event held at the Hollywood and Highland Ballroom in Los Angeles

And daughter Eden appears to enjoy her mother's love of acting, as she got into character by wearing her own version of Belle's yellow ballgown, but sister Savannah preferred to stick with her own clothes.

Cross, a hands-on mother to her three-year-old twin girls, was accompanied to the event by her husband Tom Mahoney, which was also attended by celebrities Stephanie Pratt, and former Miss America Ali Landry.

Her stock broker husband appears to have made a return to full health after a year-long battle with cancer.

Meanwhile, in the return of Desperate Housewives Bree gets a new lease of life as she and Orson finally begin to move away from each other in Season 7.

While she lusts after a new young carpenter played by Megan Fox's new husband Brian Austin Green, Orson has his eye on a woman named Judy.

Celebrity guests: Stephanie Pratt brought a young guest, and former Miss America Ali Landry brought her daughter Estela - all the girls wore Belle's yellow dress

Bree also comes clean finally with Gaby, telling her that her son Andrew is the driver that killed Carlos' mother.

Gaby is furious, but only because she doesn't want to tell Carlos thinking he would end up in jail after killing Andrew.

New cast member Vanessa Williams plays Renee Perry, the rich wife of baseball player Doug Perry.

Renee is Lynette's old college roommate and comes to visit Lynette on Wisteria Lane. Soon, the two of them start nitpicking on each other.

Council's amnesty on Leicester beauty firms - BBC

Posted: 03 Oct 2010 07:05 AM PDT

Leicester firms offering beauty treatments are being urged to register with the city council.

The council is running an amnesty for businesses until 31 December - after then companies which are not registered face a £1,000 fine.

Firms which carry out hairdressing, body piercing, electrolysis and tattooing need to register as part of city council bylaws.

Council officers will be visiting firms in 2011 to ensure they are registered.

Govind Mandora, the city council's health and safety team manager said: "We are giving businesses a chance to avoid enforcement action being taken against them.

"These bylaws are not new and so there is no excuse. Anyone flouting the law will have enforcement action taken against them."

Physicians, do no harm to our tiniest humans - Washington Times

Posted: 03 Oct 2010 04:52 PM PDT

At least that's how National Institutes of Health Director Francis S. Collins reacted to a new method of creating stem cells. Medical researchers from the Harvard Stem Cell Institute published breakthrough findings last week on a technique that successfully creates stem cells from skin cells, with far fewer risks than any previous method.

It's a game-changer, eliminating the "need" to continue embryo-killing research. But not so at NIH (coincidentally, the same government agency that underwrote the evil in Guatemala). While the new methods "provide a substantial advance," Mr. Collins said, they "must continue to be conducted side by side with human embryonic cell research."

How to save your family by insisting on the dignity of all life

Educate your children about the beauty of all life, from beginning to end. Show your children the amazing sonogram images of pre-born children and teach them that, from conception, all the littlest embryo needs is time and a nurturing womb in order to be delivered nine months later as a newborn.

Keep them off the slippery slope that grants rights to the pre-born at one stage (say, six months) while denying it at another (like six weeks). The right to life rests on human dignity, not size or growth stage.

Know the facts about embryonic stem cell research. The Bioethics Defense Fund and Do No Harm are good resources. The media profile hard cases and focus mainly on the sufferings of those with degenerative diseases. But destroying the embryo's life can't pivot on the compassion we feel for others.

Pray for your own medical professionals to respect all life, including the tiniest. And encourage your own children to enter those professions — we need strong, ethical leaders in medicine who will indeed "do no harm."
