Scott Kibby of Chelmsford is among the entries for the 28th Run of the Charles Canoe and Kayak Race in Boston on Sunday, April 25. The Run of the Charles is held to benefit the Charles River Watershed Association's (CRWA) and its efforts to protect the health, beauty and accessibility of the Charles River.

The annual Run of the Charles Canoe & Kayak Race showcases the ongoing improvements in the Charles River while drawing approximately 1,500 paddlers and thousands of spectators to enjoy a day on the river. The race features paddling races for all skill levels, from expert to novice. The $5,000 Professional Flatwater Canoe Marathon draws elite paddlers from across the United States and Canada. The 24-Mile Relay Race draws corporate teams year after year due to the excellent bonding experience it creates with co-workers, and the 19-Mile, 9-Mile, and 6-Mile races bring out recreational paddlers ranging in age from 11 to 80 years old.

Kibby is entered in the 24-Mile Corporate division.

While most participants are from Massachusetts, entries have already come in for paddlers in Canada, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, and New York with many other states expected.

The Finish Line Festival, where some races begin and all races finish, will host daylong activities for the public at DCR's Artesani Park on Soldiers' Field Road in Brighton. The Finish Line Festival is open to the public and vendors will be on hand to showcase their products and talents. Face painters, balloon artists and others will also be on site to offer entertainment to adults and children alike. Some activities charge a fee.

There is a playground for children of all ages. The festival will also feature live music by the Dixieland-style New New Orleans Jazz Band, various food vendors and booth displays as well as company picnics.

The Charles River Watershed Association is a nonprofit organization committed to protecting and enhancing the health, beauty and accessibility of the Charles River and its tributaries and watershed. Every government and private stakeholder in the watershed knows CRWA's advocacy for environmental protection.
